The MPH program at The University of Alabama (UA) is housed in the Department of Health Science. MPH students are trained to promote and improve health and well-being of populations. The program prepares students to plan, implement and evaluate health education/promotion programs, through in-class and community-based training with community and academic partners throughout our area.

The MPH program offers a concentration in health education and promotion, and students develop expertise in the Eight Areas of Responsibility for Health Education Specialists, in addition to the foundational competencies in public health. The program prepares MPH students to sit for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES®) examination, the entry-level certification for health education/promotion.

The MPH program is offered on-campus or through a fully online option. UA provides an Accelerated Master’s Program (Bachelor + MPH), two dual graduate programs (MA in Anthropology + MPH; PhD in Anthropology + MPH), or a standalone MPH degree.
