Diverse Learning Experiences

The University of Wisconsin-La Crosse’s MPH program began in 1991 and was nationally accredited by CEPH in 1992. UW-La Crosse also offers the only Bachelor of Science in Community Health Education in the UW-System, and it was the first undergraduate program accredited by CEPH in 2007. These professional preparation programs are guided by selected public health competencies of the Council on Linkages Between Academia and Public Health Practice, and the entry-level and advanced 1-level health education competencies of the Competencies Update Project.

Major emphasis is placed on the preparation of practitioners through realistic, forward-looking class project activities, research, and mentor-based internships. Distance education technology is employed for some of the coursework delivery. In 2004, the MPH program was ranked 6th in the nation among Best Graduate Programs in Community Health by U.S. News and World Report.
