The Vanderbilt University School of Medicine MPH program offers a strong foundation to meet the challenging needs of today’s public health scientists and professionals. With our program’s emphasis on population-based quantitative evaluation, our students’ mentored research projects have used their epidemiological skills in public health urgencies such as evaluating the impact of the recent H1N1 flu epidemic and establishing a Tuberculosis Center for Pakistan flood victims. MPH alumni are also making an impact in state public health, using evidence-based practice to direct programs in pregnancy prevention and foster parenting.
Since its establishment in 1996, the Vanderbilt MPH program has played an important role in the career development of many clinical research fellows and faculty. Many graduates of the MPH program have continued on to obtain career development and investigator-initiated awards that have fostered scientific discovery and translated their public health research into improved population health care.
