Wayne State University

Wayne State University is located in the cultural center of Detroit. The MPH program is administered by the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health Sciences within the WSU School of Medicine. The program offers an MPH degree and a graduate certificate in public health practice.

Our evening program offers on-site, classroom-based instruction. In addition to the core classes in public health, our program and university offer students a substantial number of elective courses to choose from based on their needs and interests. MPH faculty are committed to working with our students to advise, instruct and guide them as they move through the program and achieve their academic goals. Several of our MPH faculty are practicing public health professionals in the community and bring a unique perspective not so readily available in more traditional programs.

Students have the opportunity to select a practicum experience in a wide variety of community settings and to participate in a multitude of diverse research projects conducted by our faculty. Research experiences are available not only in the School of Medicine, but also in a variety of research centers including the Karmanos Cancer Institute, the Institute for Environmental Health Sciences, the Institute of Gerontology, the Center for Urban Studies and the Mott Center for Human Growth and Development.  WSU is also home to the Perinatology Research Branch of the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (one of only a few NIH intramural branches located outside of its main campus in Maryland).
